The Battle of the Blues - Mexico Premiere

The Battle of the Blues 🐋🎬

Mexico Premiere · A documentary on underwater noise and blue whales

This Wednesday, January 28, 2026, Loreto will host the Mexico premiere of The Battle of the Blues, a documentary that explores the impacts of maritime traffic and underwater noise on the blue whale—an animal that relies on sound to navigate, communicate, and feed.

The film was recorded in the Santa Barbara Channel, California, a region with a high presence of blue whales that, like Loreto Bay, forms part of their feeding and migration routes. From this perspective, the documentary shows how the increase in large vessels transforms the ocean’s acoustic environment and directly affects the lives of these cetaceans.

The screening is part of the Blue Whale Festival Loreto 2026, organized by the XI Loreto City Council through the Department of Tourism. It is promoted by Conserva Loreto and Loreto SoundLab as an environmental education activity focused on raising awareness about the harmful effects of underwater noise generated by large vessels and encouraging community reflection on habitat protection.

This event also marks the first Spanish-language screening in Latin America. The film was translated and dubbed into Spanish thanks to the collaboration with Rubén D. Arvizu and the team at Arvintel Media Productions. We also thank Santa Barbara Channel Whale Heritage Area and Protecting Blue Whales & Blue Skies for making this presentation possible.
